Tonight, We Dine in Deklein

Interesting series of events for G00DFELLAS, lately.
When I joined Comply Or Die, <GODS> lived in the Curse region where it regularly terrorized all manner of RSF pets, from Kraftwerk. in Scalding Pass to Interstellar Alcohol Conglomerate in Catch, all the way down to killing people like DEFI4NT in Omist.  When I was in DEFI4NT, we used to wonder, “Where does G00DFELLAS live?” so we could go and strike back at them, perhaps, the way they continually struck at us.  We did similar in Stain, going after -A- and Stain Empire on their home turf, after all.  Turns out, they were having fun basing out of the Angel Cartel’s sovereign territory with the benefit of not needing to defend their home against those who would seek to take it away from them.
That’s what makes the last week so interesting.  Well, it’s one of the reasons, anyway.  As the GBC’s offensive against IRON in Deklein drew to a close, Band of Brothers began splitting up the territory.  After all, they had publicly stated that they have no interest in conquest and are simply looking to destroy their enemies’ infrastructure and remove them from what they have for so long called home.  G00DFELLAS had occasionally sent support fleets to aid the rest of the GBC’s Maximum Damage (better known as MAX) in the beginning.  Before that, they had often shown up to annihilate enemy fleets either on their way to a primary engagement or fleeing from one.
When not deploying strategically, they stuck to roaming gangs (usually nano, but not always) and made a generally respected reputation for themselves as what anyone outside of the GBC would consider “BoB pets” (after all, nobody considers themselves as pets, right?).  When it came time to divide Fade and Deklein, G00DFELLAS was invited to take a constellation or two and enjoy the benefits of the region, known to be one of the richest in New Eden.  So, word came down that we were to pack up our assets in Curse and prepare to move them across the cluster to a new staging area.

BoB Neutral – What the…?

I’m still not 100% sure of the details, but here’s what happened from this pilot’s perspective:
I woke up, rolled a bit of loose tobacco and logged into the secure comm networks to find the alliance fleet in chaos and the corporate channel quietly monitoring the other.
“What’s goin’ on, fellas?” I asked cautiously, not sure of what I was coming into.
“GBC’s neutral,” came the simple reply.  I promptly shut my gob and grabbed a bite to eat on the way to my hangar where the Sica II was docked in case we got a rapid deployment order.  Taking every precaution available to me, I instructed the hangar crew to start repackaging supplementary equipment.
Over the next half hour, I came to understand that one of the friendly organizations that had accompanied <GODS> to the Northwest was neutral to someone else under the Greater BoB Community umbrella, possibly L.E.G.I.O.N., and was flying in fleet with G00DFELLAS.  This fleet may have been roaming, or it may have been camping a gate… for all I know, it may have just been massing outside of a station and getting ready to go do something – as I said, the details are very unclear to me… so much speculation, straight answers were impossible to get with 200 people in one channel, each with their own answer.
Anyway, some other GBC pilot insisted upon firing on this member of a <GODS> gang despite being asked repeatedly to stop firing at the allied pilot and finally being warned that the fleet would return fire.  This pilot didn’t stop, insisting “NBSI, I’ll do what I want,” and was destroyed.  Note that those may or may not have been his exact words, but it is the attitude that was described in all accounts I heard.  Now, there is one GBC kill on the G00DFELLAS killboard for that night – one being a Claymore from Black Nova Corp in BoB proper, in ROIR-Y which is where <GODS> is staging.  It seems evident to me, then, that pilot Pesadel0 was the offending pilot who started this whole mess.
I’m sure I don’t have to tell you how an alliance moving all of its assets to a GBC staging point to participate in and benefit from a GBC offensive and then being suddenly removed from the GBC would cause no small amount of confusion and anxiety.  But executor Endeva, a former [DICE] pilot with strong ties within BoB still, has kept the alliance mostly calm by remaining calm himself, which is commendable.  I still don’t know all of the details of what talks are or aren’t going on, or were going on as the case may be.  I’m not in the command structure, seeing as how I’m not the CEO of [CODIE], so I probably never will know for sure.
But I do know that on September 11th, a large fleet composed of G00DFELLAS battleships and support set out from ROIR-Y in Pure Blind and proceeded deep into Deklein, to O-2RNZ where this fleet proceeded to destroy a cynosural system jammer and reinforce deathstar-fit POSes in preparation for the liberation of the system.  O-2 is the site of an outpost held by Pure.
Though a little late, I burned from ROIR-Y to join the support fleet in my Hurricane-class battlecruiser, “The Perfect Storm.”  My Tempest-class battleship, “The Big Boom,” is not yet fitted properly as my gunnery skills are inadequate – I am unable to operate Tech 2 Large Projectile Turrets and will likely remain so until I am proficient in the operation of Recon and Heavy Assault cruisers – I may even learn to fly Command Ships before learning to use the advanced large armaments.  But I’m getting off-topic, here!  On arriving in O-2, I was instructed to proceed to the 3JN9-Q gate where I would join a gate camp already in progress, holding Pure. forces in the deadend system in place.
Each fleet element was using a seperate commlink, with only the respective fleet commanders being Floodprivy to what was happening in the other wings, so we were in the dark as to the progress of the assault on the Pure. cyno jammer until we saw a cynosural beacon appear on our heads-up displays.  A great cheer went up as our long-range sensors all confirmed for us the friendly capital fleet pouring into the system, flourishing trumpets to herald the end of Pure. occupancy.
Despite the presence of several POS gunners at the Pure. tower, our fleet commanders are experienced and avoided the loss of any friendly vessel during the primary assault.  The operation was breifly threatened by a roaming IRON gang, but when they realized exactly what was going on in O-2RNZ, they promptly turned around.  Thus, the evening was rather uneventful for the support fleet.  After the cyno jammer fell, a single hostile Ishtar attempted to run our blockade of the 3JN gate, thinking that with our objective accomplished and many of our battleship fleet heading for safety to wait out the reinforcement timer our gate camps would be over.  While partially correct, he didn’t wait long enough and was quickly destroyed.
Afterward, as the G00DFELLAS fleet replenished stocks of ammunition and pilots were debriefed so that command could go over our successes and our mistakes, I managed to capture a nice close-up shot of the impressively vertical Naglfar-class Minmatar dreadnaught.  A small matter to most veterans of 0.0 warfare, but to a pilot like me, who hasn’t spent much time involved in real territorial disputes, seeing so many friendly capital ships has been a treat.

Round Two

While writing this entry, I became aware of an engagement that I was not present for.  Pure. rallyed an 80-man fleet to come and face off against the assembled <GODS> armada.  They fielded their fleet outnumbered and without the help of the other Northern Carebear Coalition forces, but they were not afraid for they had Papa Pod’s Avatar-class titan to bolster their efforts.
G00DFELLAS aren’t much for forums (as a whole, the alliance gets its action in-game), so there is no battle report for me to reference but given the shortage of battleship losses, it seems that the <GODS> sniper BSes either cleared the field or they simply tanked the detonation of Judgement, the Amarrian doomsday device, and were adequately supported by remote repairing carriers.  My guess is the latter, as no less than 70 Pure. ships met their end, while only 23 friendly vessels perished (view the condensed battle report here).  Terribly sorry for missing this one!  I still haven’t seen a titan in person, friendly or otherwise.
Unfortunately, it seems that Pure. managed to destroy the remains of their original cynosural system jammer and deploy a new one.  The battle may not be over, yet, but given the losses Pure. has taken elsewhere, if the rest of the NCC continues to focus on other defensive fronts, Pure. won’t be able to keep the A21H-Z constellation for long.
All I can do is try to make sure The Perfect Storm is ready and present for Round Three tomorrow.

Whilst I have no desire to play the 0.0 game, I sure LOVE reading reports like these that make the conflicts sound so fascinating! Good luck out there…fly safe!

In my opinion, capital ships aren’t properly put to use until they’re in the big fleet fights… but the big fleet fights are (for me) the drawback of the whole 0.0 game. I’m sure that the numbers involved here aren’t getting crazy lag, but the battles between MAX and the NCC were huge and surely lagged to hell.

It’s not for everyone, and to be honest there’s times when I wonder why I’m even bothering, but then I read CAOD and see the e-Glory… I want a piece of it, one way or another. When I re-form DFIAS, maybe I’ll have had my fill of 0.0 for a while and will employ the tactics and new ship skills learned while flying with [CODIE] in pure piracy or perhaps in empire mercenary or racketeering and make my EVE legacy there – maybe I’ll work with other corps and carve out our own piece of nullsec (if I’m not sick of fleet warfare by then!).

Gotta say, though, I hope the fleet/territory stuff doesn’t become the new de facto focus of G00DFELLAS.

Thank you! Now that I’m focusing more on the fun parts of EVE, I’m finding more enthusiasm for the blog – I’d lost that somewhere between Tenerifis and Outer Ring but I hope to continue building this blog and all of the positive feedback from folks I respect helps big time o7
