The Learning Tree

In my last Helpful Tips entry, "Core Fitting Skills", the Learning Skills were mentioned. So, I figured they’d be a good topic for this entry.
A lot of people in the Rookie Help channel will preach to noobs that they absolutely must train the learning skills to max before doing anything else, but to be fair, that would make for a rather boring first month in EVE. Few players have the kind of patience that approach requires, so this entry will look at how to get the most out of your training time while still having fun as a new player - after all, video games are supposed to be fun, right?

Core Fitting Skills

A while ago, I pledged to make a post that would be helpful for the newer players in EVE, but I sort of lost track of it… in other words, I sorta forgot about it.
But, I’ve got a wiki that I’ve been populating for the Defias Brotherhood and since DFIAS is closed for the time being, it’s not exactly ’sensitive’ information.  However, I don’t want to open the wiki altogether, because I fully intend to rebuild DFIAS at some point in the future and it wouldn’t do to have a whole bunch of users and possibly contributors, only to revoke their access and privatize the wiki all over again.  So, some of the information I will post here from time to time - if not once a week, maybe ever two weeks.  This will also keep me looking for good things to add to it.

Valedictorian’s Speech - by consider telos

icoPosted by: Havohej  :  Category: Helpful Tips

The following was originally posted by a player named consider telos, of Rionnag Alba Corporation, from Triumvirate. Alliance on the Eve-Online General Discussion Forum in a thread titled Advanced EVE Pointers. The entire thread is full of information that EVERY noob needs to know about EVE (Everyone vs. Everyone) Online, but that so many never learn until it’s too late. As the title suggests, though, some of the information contained there might be more useful to novice-intermediate pilots as 1-day-old noobs won’t have any idea what the posters are referring to. Here is consider telos’ post in its original form; I have not edited it other than to apply bold text to certain points which I wanted to emphasize.

Ladies and Gentlemen of the class of ’08,

If I could offer you only one tip for the future, polycarbs would be it. The long term benefits of polycarbs have been proved by scientists whereas the rest of my advice has no basis more reliable than my own meandering experience… I will dispense this advice now.

How to NOT get PODDED! - by Havohej

icoPosted by: Havohej  :  Category: Helpful Tips

For a while, now, I’ve been frustrated with hearing my pilots report that they’ve just jumped into a gate camp. I know as well as they do that they now have a 95% chance of losing their ship. I also know that they have a 15% chance of losing their pod and with it whatever implants they may have plugged in.
Except that it hasn’t been a 15% chance in practice. It’s been nearly 100%! Every time I’ve been online and one of them has jumped into a camp, or every time one of them has logged on and told me about how they lost their ship and got podded, I have briefly explained how to not lose your pod. Unfortunately, it didn’t seem to help. I continued to see capsule entries right behind ship entries in the corp’s confirmed losses column. I decided to post a more detailed explanation on our corporate forum. So far, everyone who’s read it has responded positively so I’ve decided to post it publicly here on the blog.
