This is the ‘character’ background I wrote for my PotBS character, Stephen MacKenna. Seeing as how I’m no sailor, nor am I any sort of expert on things nautical I think I’m going to try to stay away from that sort of thing as much as possible in writing anything like this, but as the roleplayer in me isn’t likely to be able to avoid IC posts altogether, I thought it best to post this here as well. It’s already been posted on the PotBS and Nine Winds forums.

This is likely to be the last out-of-character chronicles post that I make regarding PotBS. I haven’t quite decided on how to go about writing Chronicles posts for Stephen MacKenna; I don’t know if I’m going to make it conversational the way I made the Havohej posts, third person like I were writing short stories or perhaps in the “Captain’s Log” format, which would be first-person but not conversational. I’ve yet to decide, and if anyone cares to offer your opinion you’re welcome to!
I’m also curious to see how many of my original readers will continue to follow this blog despite the dwindling amount of EVE-O related content. I just hope I can make the PotBS stuff at least as entertaining. I will definitely miss having killboards to link; in PotBS it truly is a matter of SSDH: “Screenshots or it Didn’t Happen”! And speaking of screenshots, with that invitation for input out of the way I’d like to share with you my first PvP experiences in PotBS.

…is that you have to do it if you want any attention. Recently, this has been getting a little bit of attention from the rank and file of PotBS forum goer. In fact, I remember it getting a little attention on the EVE-O forums when EVE’s commercial on the SciFi Network first aired as well. Now, I’m not big on television so I don’t know if there have been more EVE ads or if they’re still running that first ad at all. But I do know that PotBS hasn’t had a television ad to date and that, though they were advertised fairly well in the magazines at one time there hasn’t been a whole lot of media attention or advertising for them recently.

Lookie lookie who I found in Matthew Town (Brethren Pirates primary trading port): Ginger Magician! Some might remember this name from the incident that got him perma-banned from EVE-Online, which was recounted in detail in an EVE Tribune article from Year 2, Issue 25. Funny who you can run into when you’re not looking.
I’ve also met a well-known Idle Empires pilot (name withheld) and a member of a less prominent wardec corp – the latter of whom tried to get me with a PotBS version of the “Send me isk I’ll send back 10x cause I’m quitting the game” routine – I immediately knew it had to be fellow EVE alumni!
But there’s another reason this post is titled ‘Small World’ and that is that, by comparison to EVE, Pirates of the Burning Sea does take place on a very small world.

First of all, I want to congratulate CrazyKinux from CrazyKinux’s Musing on his blog being featured on the latest EVE-Online Newsletter! Way to go, mate! You’ve got an excellent blog there, perhaps the hub of all the EVE blogosphere, and it’s great to see you recognized for it!
Now, in my last couple of posts I’ve told you all that I’m experimenting with another game and have decided to play with it for a while. That game being Pirates of the Burning Sea.
