[OOC] One Thousand to One: A Closer Look

[OOC] One Thousand to One: A Closer Look

The following isn’t so much a story as it is a short ‘behind the scenes’ look at the events leading up to and surrounding the post of Du’uma Fiisi Integrated Astrometrics‘ IGS thread [TRADE] One Thousand to One and an explanation of what’s been going on in the weeks following the thread. At the time the events took place, I got permission from Aria Jenneth, Louella Dougans and Cer’ena to use their characters’ names in a subsequent blog post about it. I didn’t bother asking Anonymous Agerothite because hey… he’s anonymous

The way this post is presented, it should be pretty obvious that this is all OOC information (Havohej is not posting his correspondence with Aria for all of GalNet to see, for example, and he’s damn sure not posting to tell you all about the dozen quarantine centers Du’uma Fiisi is currently running through shell corporations on Amarr worlds and moons under the guise of “Private Slave Training Facilities”!). But just in case it’s not obvious: The information presented in this post is being shared on a strictly out-of-character basis. Unless your character was directly involved, your character has no knowledge of these events taking place.

Zuzanna Alondra has been approached about this by a member of the EVE Observer, which is the primary reason for this posting. An IGS post about that exchange will probably go up in the near future, as well as an official In-Character announcement from Du’uma Fiisi regarding the disposition of the million freed slaves after a suitable period of time has passed.

As a final note, if you have ideas for collaborative RP based on/surrounding the disposition of the one million quarantined Minmatars, please feel free to contact me via EVE-Mail or register on our forum using your ingame name and send me a PM! I won’t promise to agree with or go along with your ideas, but I’m willing to at least hear them – if it’s interesting and ‘realistic’ we might be able to work something out.

Emancipation

Emancipation

Halmah IV was a planet in crisis. Located in the Bleak Lands, it was a backwater planet in a backwater region all but forgotten by its government. The soil wasn’t hearty enough to produce the prized Amarrian wheat and there were no indigenous species of livestock worth going to the trouble of shipping to other parts of the Empire. No valuable minerals to speak of…

No, the only reason the Amarr Empire held onto the Bleaks at all, let alone Halmah, was that the region served as a buffer between the Minmatar Republic in Heimatar and the Amarrian Throne Worlds. Sure, the Republic could launch an attack without conquering the Bleaks – that much was shown by the Elder fleet’s attack on the day everything changed – but without holding the Bleak Lands, their forward elements would be cut off from resupply and easily defeated after the initial shock had worn off. It was for this reason that the Bleak Lands had become a prime target the moment the war began and the capsuleer militias were sanctioned.

The Return (3 of 3): Crisis of Self

The Return (3 of 3): Crisis of Self

Without further adieu, the conclusion of “The Return”. (+5 Internets if you recognize the cinematic reference herein).

“I wish to visit the Oasis,” Havohej said. His voice was firm, as if a challenge to any who would deny his right to visit the very heart of the Thukker Tribe.

“Why?” Surprisingly, there was no antagonism in Harun’s tone. It came forth as an honest question.

“I wish to visit my grandfather,” Havo answered.

“No, pilot,” the elderly man replied, “I mean why now? What makes you want to touch base with your Thukker roots after so many years away?”

The Return (2 of 3): Out of Place

Yesterday I published the beginning of this short story detailing Havohej’s return to action in New Eden. Here is the second part of the story, Out of Place. The third and final installment will be posted tomorrow. Enjoy!

The Trust Partners Warehouse in M-MD3B was a much more active place than Havohej expected it to be. The spaceport was crowded with open berths in short supply and there were people everywhere! Forced to push and shove past one another to get where they were going, literally thousands of Minmatar were conducting various types of business here along with a few scattered Gallente and Caldari traders. As soon as the passengers emerged from the airlock, there were no less than a dozen guides clamoring for their attention, promising the “lowest rates to be found this side of Egbinger!” As the crowd from their transport dispersed into the throng, Wisler and Havohej found each other.

The Return (1 of 3): Pilgrimage

I decided a while back that when I returned to EVE I wanted to pursue the roleplay aspect of the game more than I had the first time around. As such, Havohej needed to be repurposed but without losing the core ideas I had for the character when I first created it in 2007. Given my experiences in the game so far (and of course that means Havohej’s experiences in the game so far also), I couldn’t very well jump right in to the ArPee pool without there being some sort of catalyst for Havohej’s IC change of direction.

So, deciding to incorporate my six-month-long RL break from EVE into Havohej’s story, I set out to write a (relatively) short bit of fiction describing the reason for his hiatus and the short series of events surrounding his return to action in New Eden’s capsuleer community. That short bit of fiction turned out to be pretty long! I wanted to keep it brief and readable, but at the same time I wanted to convey certain ideas about Havohej and the way he sees things — the way he thinks. For instance, the way he can feel sorry for the displaced refugees liberated from the Ammatar Mandate yet still place no value whatsoever on their actual lives. As it drew on, I decided to split it up.

I’ve been blogging off and on (mostly on) for a while now, some of which has been In Character and some of which hasn’t. However, this is the first time I’ve written something with the intention of having it be a short story or “fanfic.” Here is the first part of what will be a three post series. I hope you enjoy.
